Typical development: Speech and language skills

Our Lightning lesson Typical development: Speech and language skills explores what speech and language development looks like in young people aged 11 to 18. This lesson will teach you practical ways to spot young people who may have speech and language challenges.

Intended audience

Staff who work with secondary-aged young people. This could include teachers, teaching assistants, SENCos, speech and language therapy assistants and other staff working in health or education.

Time commitments

This Lightning lesson will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Pre-requisite Knowledge

This Lightning lesson is part of our “going further” series. It is assumed that professionals have either completed Introduction to speech, language and communication course on the Speech and Language UK Learning Centre, or have equivalent knowledge and skills gained through other formal or informal learning, and/or relevant experience working with children and young people.
