An introduction to speech, language and communication

This course is aimed at staff who work with children and young people at all ages and stages. It’s an introductory course, so you don’t need any prior knowledge, but it is aimed at staff who have some experience of working with children and young people. The course has four modules. Each should take around an hour to complete. You can learn at your own pace, in your own time. You’ll explore topics like typical speech and language development, speech and language challenges, and how to support children and young people’s speech and language development.

An introduction to speech, language and communication is a course aimed at staff who work with children and young people in early years, primary school, secondary school and further education. It is an introductory course: there is no assumed pre-requisite knowledge. However, the content is aimed at staff who have some experience working with children and young people in early years, primary school, secondary school or further education. 

The course consists of four modules. Each module will take approximately 60 minutes to complete. You can complete the modules at your own pace and in your own time. During the course you will explore topics such as typical speech and language development, speech and language challenges, and how to support all children and young people’s speech and language development.
