Helping children understand instructions

This Lightning lesson is for staff who work with primary-aged children. This could include teachers, teaching assistants, SENCos, speech and language therapy assistants and other staff working in health or education.

This Lightning Lesson is part of our “going further” series. It is assumed that professionals have either completed Introduction to speech, language and communication course on the Speech and Language UK Learning Centre, or have equivalent knowledge and skills gained through other formal or informal learning, and/or relevant experience working with young people.

You will learn simple and effective ways to adapt your instructions so children can understand them more easily.

This Lightning Lesson will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

You will see that when children understand your instructions, participation improves and classroom management becomes easier.
