Speech Language and Communication Advanced Course
Level 3 Qualification
Structure of the qualification
The Speech, language and communication advanced course: Level 3 qualification is made up of two mandatory units and one optional unit from a choice of four. As a learner, you will only be able to start your optional unit once you have completed your mandatory units.
Each unit has a number, for example, A/601/2872. This relates to its reference number which you can use to find units registered on the Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF).
Each unit has a credit value, which tells you how many credits are awarded when a unit is completed. The credit value also gives an indication of how long it will normally take you to prepare for a unit. One credit is approximately 10 hours of learning. However, every learner is different and the number of hours is for guidance only.
Discussions about your elective (there are options but it isn’t optional – so this reduces confusion) Unit will begin once your studies are well under way. Your tutor will provide guidance about this when the time is right.

A/601/2872: Support speech, language and communication development
